Chief Shop Steward-RSMC Report
My first week was fairly quiet, but my next two weeks were a nightmare; dealing with route splits in Depot 4 and Depot 11. I had the unfortunate pleasure of helping RSMCs through the Corporations idea of bringing the RSMC routes down to an eight our day. Basically it is pay cheque chopping. There is no route measurement system in place for RSMCs. Therefore CPC takes points of call and mileage away to make RSMC routes eight hours. We uncovered several abnormalities. There are sometimes two or three sets of numbers for points of call and mileage and some of the income numbers are out by anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. We were able to pin the Corporation to pick one set of numbers, especially for the income, in the RSMC’s favor. There is absolutely no room in Depot 11 for the RSMCs. I saw a contractor move a T-cart piled so high with parcels that he couldn’t see around it. Any one of those parcels could have fallen off and hurt someone. The supervisor watched this and did nothing “because it was only a contractor”. There is one RSMC route in Depot 7 that was split February 1st and was promised to the person doing it because the supervisor is not willing to post it. This will be grieved. The person doing the route could still end up with it but the supervisor, by doing this, is in direct violation of our collective agreement. I have also written another bulletin (a published author with no royalties-Ha
Ha). Look for it. It’s a good one.
