CUPW and LCUC, although separate Unions, fought together in a 3 week long strike and won the “Rand Formula”. CUPW signed a collective agreement that for the first time embodied rights and benefits that could no longer be taken away at a whim by management or the Federal government. The new contract provided better wages, improved working conditions, and obligated the employer to consult with the Union on many issues that were previously decided upon exclusively by management. A grievance process was put in place. CUPW was certified to represent part-time postal clerks. The Union began the process of fighting for part-timers. This made it harder for management to pit part-timers against full-timers. |
